FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT

Hudson City School District offers two types of Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) that employees can participate in. The FSA is administered by Benefit Resource (BRI). An FSA is a pretax benefit allowable under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 125. The plan allows eligible employees to set aside a specific pretax dollar amount for the medical, dental, vision, orthodontia, and dependent care expenses. If you have predictable out-of-pocket expenses, you may want to consider opening an FSA.

Types of FSA’s:
  • Medical FSA’s can be elected if you are NOT participating in a High Deductible Health Plan and can be used for eligible medical, dental, vision and orthodontia expenses:
    • Office visit Co-pays
    • Deductibles
    • Prescription Eyeglasses
    • Contact Lenses
    • Dental Cleanings
  • Dependent Care Account can be used for childcare expenses for a claimed dependent
    • Examples include:
      • Daycare
      • After school care or elder care
  • The IRS Annual Contribution Limits for the 2025 plan year are:
    • Medical : $3,300
    • Dependent Care: $5,000

Please remember that Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) have a use-it or lose-it rule, so please plan carefully on how much you contribute each plan year, as the funds do not roll over year after year.
